Scholarships Help To Provide Access

Haiti’s school system is dominated by the non-public sector, whether for-profit, faith-based or run by non-governmental organizations.  This means that families must pay tuition to enroll in school and in addition they must purchase uniforms, shoes and books.  FYH’s education program allows an opportunity for families to apply for assistance making an education possible for their children.

Needs-based Assessments Create More Educational Opportunities

As we approach a new school year and scholarship evaluation, the team is emphasizing a needs-based assessment in partnership with the families and school leadership to determine what level of assistance is needed.  In the vast majority of cases, parents will be making their own financial commitment to cover a portion of the school fees.  Our school is 100% Haitian run, and FYH follows the school’s lead as to where we can assist in the development and maintenance of this program.  The scholarship program has strict participation and academic expectations which are developed by the school leadership team.  FYH’s goal is to create sustainable improvement in the lives of the children/families on La Gonâve through increased access to healthcare and education. We want as many children as possible to have the knowledge and skills necessary to help shape the future of La Gonâve.

For You Haiti’s School

Our school started in 2012 with three classrooms, and currently contains 16 classrooms, over 400 students from kindergarten to sixth grade, available filtered water and a daily lunch meal.   Our Hungry Tummies program was developed to make sure children were getting the necessary nourishment during the school day to make learning possible.  Now through our partnership with the World Food Program this program is 100% funded! Our children can count on at least one nutritious meal everyday during the school year.   The school is located on the main road in the town of Anse-a-Galets and was started by a small group of education-minded community members, including FYH’s President Samuel Michel.  When For You Haiti was formed in 2015, we began a partnership with the school to provide capital investments for expansion and scholarships for students in need.  As For You Haiti has grown, so has the school, creating employment opportunities for the Haitian people and sparking a love of learning with its students!
