In 2022, Elien Jay Bermenslee visited our medical clinic on La Gonave due to his bowed legs. After consulting with an orthopedic surgeon, it was recommended that he wait for another year before considering surgery.
This year, Elien moved to Carrefour on the mainland to live with his grandparents, posing communication challenges for the FYH team. Fortunately, his father, who resides on La Gonave, provided directions to reach the grandmother’s house in Carrefour.
Elien’s bowed legs caused him significant pain while walking, prompting my advice to his grandparents to take him to Adventist Hospital to consult with Dr. Scott. They promptly visited the hospital, and surgery was scheduled. Elien received external TSF frames on both legs, which have already begun straightening them. The frames will be removed later this year, leaving his parents and grandparents incredibly grateful.
