Meet Mordinsky!

Meet Mordinsky!

Modinsky Mombrum is a charming 13 years old boy and is one of the 11 children in our special classroom.  He has Cerebral Palsy and has been part of For You Haiti’s child sponsorship program for the past 5 years.  Mordninsky is non-verbal but has lots of smiles, energy and loves being around people.  He is the oldest of 4 siblings and was always sad to see his brothers and sister go off to school. Now, he is enthusiastic from the minute he gets picked up in the mornings for school, and has big smiles for the drivers and aides that help him into the classroom.  We are so proud of the progress that Mordnisky has made in the last couple of months! He participates in all of the activities and enjoys interacting with other students.  His favorite time of the day is when the teachers guide him in writing and drawing exercises.  He can now identify and reproduce straight lines both horizontal and vertical, as well as  circles.  Mordinsky is always observing the teachers and his fellow students and has begun to understand some sign language that is utilized in the classroom.  He can communicate with the teachers when he needs to go to the bathroom and washes his hands by himself.  You can see the pride Modinsky has in himself as he masters some of these tasks and skills.  We are all thrilled to see Mordinsky’s progress and the team is constantly thinking of new activities to challenge him as he grows in his competency.

Mordinsky is one of the many reasons FYH wanted to start a Special Needs classroom.  He is a child with so much to give and he is benefitting from the regular social interactions, individualized instruction and skill based learning.  We want to see Mordinsky reach his maximum potential and see his confidence grow!

Thank you to everyone for supporting FYH in providing an opportunity for kids with different learning and disabilities to have a place to learn.  It’s been a dream come true to see this classroom come to life!
