Yliamene Pascal – STAFF Spotlight!
Meet Yliamene, a 48-year-old woman and mother of three incredible children, hailing from Nan Bathol, a village nestled about 15 miles southwest in the region of Lagonave Island. At the age of 24, she ventured to Anse-A-Galets, the main city on the island, in search of a better life.
Her journey led her to become a cook at the very inception of our For You Haiti school’s foundation. Over the years, she excelled in her role, eventually securing a position as the care house cook at For You Haiti. Yliamene is an amazing individual, always sporting a warm smile and known as a friend to everyone. Drawing from her experience as a mother, she nurtures the children at the care house with exceptional care. We consider ourselves incredibly fortunate to have her on our team.
Yliamene shares, “I pour my heart into this job. Without FYH, I wouldn’t know how to afford my son Benaja’s surgery (one of the beneficiaries of our medical program), or my children’s school fees. I’ll forever be grateful!”

Odera Love Djenissa – A True Joy and Medical Miracle
September 8, 2022, marked a significant day in the life of Glorinie Zephirin, a young woman from Plaisaance, a remote village in the west of Lagonave Island. Despite her overwhelming happiness at welcoming her first baby, Odera Love Djenissa, there lingered a hint of sadness as the child was born with a congenital malformation in her lower extremities.
As days passed, Glorinie and her husband worried about affording medical help for their child due to their financial constraints. Fortunately, a child in the same village who benefited from our program informed them about FYH’s clinic. At just one year old, Odera was brought to our clinic and swiftly enrolled in our program. She underwent surgery on the mainland, offering hope for a future where she could walk and lead a happy life.

Walender Leger – My Favorite Day
From the moment I met FYH’s staff and understood their goals, I knew it would be one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Visiting vulnerable children and contributing to significant changes in their lives gives me the satisfaction of fulfilling my lifelong desire to make the world a better place. Allow me to share a transformative home visit experience.
On May 23, 2022, Carmy (our medical outreach coordinator) and I embarked on a journey to Grand Vide, a village on the western side of La Gônave Island, to visit one of our children. During a previous visit, Carmy learned about a child with feet deformities in Trou Louis, a neighboring village. We seized the opportunity to visit him. His name is Walender Leger, a 10-year-old boy born with bilateral clubfoot. Despite his condition, Walender found joy in life, particularly through his love for soccer, despite enduring bullying.
Upon presenting Walender’s case to FYH’s medical staff, he was swiftly approved for surgery. In August 2022, he underwent surgery at Adventist Hospital on the mainland under the care of Dr. Scott, an orthopedist. After three months of recovery and several orthopedic appointments, Walender now walks on straight feet.
Walender’s progress is remarkable. He runs and plays the games he loves, showcasing a complete transformation in his life. We are all immensely proud of him, a testament to the life-changing impact of our work.
