A Desperate Father Sees a Better Future for His Son

February 1, 2023

On October 27, 2022. It was midday when an old man carrying a child knocked at the clinic door. I greeted them and looked into his eyes. My first impression was that this man has a beautiful soul. When I asked him why did he bring this child to see me he said,

“Doctor, I come from a village very far from the town, I just come to the clinic because I’m very desperate about this malformation in the foot of my son, I want to give him a bright future, I want him to be able to walk properly and do everything he needs in the future, I heard that you are helping children with malformation, please help me.”

Jefte Jean is the name of this 62-year-old man. He has 5 children and Esdras Jean is his last son. Esdras is 23 months old. He and his father came to us from Lotore, a remote village of Pointe-A-Raquette, the second commune of La Gonave. He was born with a malformation on his left foot (club foot) so he can’t walk properly.  The same day Esdras’s case was presented to the FYH Medical Director, a date was fixed to see the orthopedist. On January 19, 2023.  Esdras went by boat with his father to The Adventist Hospital of Carrefour where he met Dr. Scott, an orthopedist. One day after his appointment, he received surgery.

Thanks to the help of The Seed, For You Haiti was able to quickly respond to the call for help. Esdras will walk and run properly, the bright future that his father wanted for him. I’m so glad that FYH is there to help these desperate parents and give this child a bright future.
