Georgie has been our For You Haiti Office Manager and overall staff coordinator since 2020. She plays an enormous role in For You Haiti’s daily activities; making staff schedules, communicating with parents, and enrolling kids in all of the FYH programs (sponsorship, school, medical assistance, the care house, and daily reports) Georgie is in the middle of everything every single day!
She is the first person that our patients see when they come to the office and her beautiful smile is a huge comfort for everyone.
When Georgie began to think about motherhood, it was very gratifying to assist her and her partner as they contemplated the questions that all couples have; how do we know if we are really ready?, What should we do now?, When do I start taking vitamins? Knowing Georgie as I do, I told her “YES! Georgie, you are ready for a baby and it would be an honor to help you.” Two months after this consultation, Georgie was pregnant!
For You Haiti provides prenatal consultations, prenatal vitamins with the support of our partner Vitamin Angel, and access to regular ultrasounds. I will never forget Georgie’s first ultrasound when she heard her baby’s heartbeat and I showed her the image of her 8-week-old embryo! She was sweating and smiling with absolute amazement. We were able to share with her the sex of the baby at around 22 weeks, and she was having a boy! Each month, after the ultrasound appointment, she would ask, “Am I still having a Boy Doc?” and we all start laughing!
One of the best moments for me is the happiness in a new mother’s eyes when she sees her child for the first time after delivery. On December 27th, at 4:25 am, after following all of her prenatal appointments and consulting with us at the office every day, I’m happy to say she delivered a healthy 8.49 pound baby boy. It is extremely gratifying for the team to assist in healthy pregnancies, safe births, and infant care for all women on La Gonave, but especially when it’s one of our beloved team members!
